Film Route

We propose a selection of 8 films and  TV series:

 

"Patton" (1970): A biography of US Army General George S. Patton, who led his troops across Europe after defeating Rommel in North Africa. The film won 7 Oscars,  Golden Globe and 1 BAFTA awards.

"Robin and Marian" (1976): Disenchanted after years wasted fighting in the Crusades in the Holy Land, Robin Hood (Sean Connery) and Little John return to England. In the meantime, Marian (Audrey Hepburn) has entered a convent. They inevitably meet up, but nothing will ever be the same again.

"007: The World is not enough" (1999): Starring Pierce Brosnan, this exciting adventure of secret agent 007 is set in an army based in Kazakhstan.

In recent years, Navarre has been the scene of film shoots that have had repercussions at national and international levels. Well-known actors and actresses such as the Oscar winners Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz, Imanol Arias, Cameron Diaz and Martin Sheen and a long list of Spanish actors such as Carmen Maura, Hugo Silva, Mario Casas, Clara Lago, Carmen Machi, Karra Elejalde and Dani Rovira have put some of the most emblematic towns, villages and landscapes of Navarre on the map thanks to the popularity of the films they have featured in.

"The Way" (2009): Tom Avery (Martín Sheen) is told that his son Daniel, who he never got on well with, has died in the Pyrenees during a storm. Devastated, he travels to France, and when he discovers that his son was walking the Pilgrim's Way to Compostela, he decides to walk the route in his honour.

"The Witches of Zugarramurdi" (2012) by the director Alex de la Iglesia is an eccentric comedy in which two unemployed men - Mario Casas and Hugo Silva - carry out a heist and are pursued by the police. They enter dense forests in Navarre and fall into the clutches of a band of crazy women who feed off human flesh. A coven takes place inside the cave. The film won 8 Goya awards.

"Los Borgia" (2006): in 1492, Rodrigo Borgia was chosen as the Pope with the name of Alexander VI. His ambition and thirst for power led his family to rule many lands, although they paid a high price in the process.

"The Counselor" (2012): a thriller on drug trafficking starring Penélope Cruz, Cameron Díaz, Javier Bardem, Brad Pitt and Bruno Ganz. The Bardenas Reales is used to set the border between the USA and Mexico, with the backdrop of Cortinillas featuring strongly.

"Ocho apellidos vascos" (2013): a comedy based on Basque and Andalusian stereotypes. Rafa (Dani Rovira) a young man from a good family in Seville who only thinks about his appearance, Betis football club and girls, changes when he falls for a Basque woman, Amaia (Clara Lago) and moves to a village in the Basque Country.

Game of Thrones” (2015): is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin's series of fantasy novels, the first of which is titled A Game of Thrones.
